We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 8.00 to 10.00 at the Magna Carta school in Staines. Rehearsals are also held on some Mondays (usually at St Hilda’s Church Hall, Ashford, Middlesex). These rehearsals are primarily for those members performing principal roles, but from time to time the full company may be required at a Monday rehearsal. A few additional rehearsals (usually no more than four) are held at weekends. A schedule of rehearsal dates is issued shortly after commencement of rehearsals for a production.

COME AND JOIN US

You don’t have to be a brilliant singer - all that we are looking for is enthusiasm and the ability to sing in tune. Although some knowledge of musical notation is obviously an advantage, it is by no means essential since you will be taught the music for the shows and voice part CDs will sometimes be available for private practice.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

If you are interested in joining us, just come along to one of our Wednesday rehearsals. You can attend up to three rehearsals free of charge to see if you like us.

AUDITIONS FOR PRINCIPAL ROLES

are held a few weeks after the commencement of rehearsals for a show. The auditions are open to non-members, but any non-member who is cast in a principal role as a result of these auditions will be expected to become a member of the Society and to pay the membership subscription for the duration of the show (and obviously we hope that you will stay with us for future shows!)

SUBSCRIPTIONS

The membership subscription is currently £2.60 per week (£1.25 for students and those on benefits).  Members are also required to sell a minimum of eight tickets per show (or ten per family)

SOCIAL AND FUNDRAISING

Over the years we have organised a variety of other activities, for example concerts, jumble sales, sale of Christmas cards, river trips, theatre visits, quiz nights and barn dances. In 1998 we organised a one-day Gilbert & Sullivan workshop which was attended by members of several other local societies and was very much enjoyed by all who took part.

BEHIND THE SCENES

If you are not interested in performing on stage but would like to become involved with the Society in some other way, there are many other tasks for which volunteers are frequently being sought. These include stage crew, prompt, costumes, props, make-up, press and publicity, organising social and fund-raising events etc.

PATRONS

Another way of supporting the Society is by becoming a Patron. In return for a minimum subscription of £10, Patrons receive advance notification of all productions and social events and copies of the Society’s newsletters.

If you would like to receive further information about any aspect of the Society, please send an e-mail to our Secretary,  (click here)
