The next venture was Edward German's "Merrie England" at Longford School, Feltham in which Albert Underwood took the part of Sir Walter Raleigh and Daniel McConnachie (Mac) that of the Earl of Essex. Joyce Cooper as Jill-all-Alone had Phyllis's black cat on stage with her, and what an extremely docile and well-behaved actress she (pussy) proved to be. This show also gave Alfred Smith (Alf) his first chance to prove his ability as a character actor in his role of Walter Wilkins. |

The Society had now elected a President - Mr A.J.Lewis - who happily remains a much-loved and highly-repected figure head. Six Vice-Presidents' names also appeared on the programmes. Indeed, the Society was getting superior, and the reports in the "Middlesex Chronicle" gave them encouragement to try something with more scope. And so in January 1948, still at Longford School, they staged.......... |
