BLESS THE BRIDE (OCTOBER 1965) |
This was our first show at Feltham's new Assembly Hall, and although the audiences enjoyed and appreciated the comfortable seats and improved viewing facilities provided, there were several 'teething troubles' to overcome as regards back-stage work and dressing rooms. The latter, though warm and cosy with adequate mirrors for make-up and general titivating, were not spacious enough for all the members to change in. So use was made of the 'Green Room' by the ladies, and the vast area beneath the stage was confiscated by the men to strut around in during various costume changes. |
The task of producing “The Bride” - or should it be “showing her off” and “seeing her off” - fell to Reg whose job was made more difficult by the fact that his plumbing apparatus was a bit wobbly and he really needed a long spell of hibernation in order to gather up his strength again. However, although occasionally the pace of the dialogue was a bit slow and some of the chorus did not always bother to put their best endeavours into the singing, there is no doubt that this show was an enjoyable experience. Its colourful scenery and decorative gowns made it agreeable to look at though it was suggested that the bogus doctor (alias Cyril alias Liberace) should have given the kiss of life to the first act. |
Having now assessed the amenities of this new medium in which to stage our main productions, we are hopeful of putting on an even better show next autumn. |
