This adaptation for amateur theatre of Bizet's operatic masterpiece had its first production at Westcliff On Sea by the Little Theatre Club (who commissioned it) in 1990 and it has since been staged successfully by many UK societies.  Our production was set in the present day and whilst the story followed the original plot of steamy seduction, infatuation, infidelity, rejection and fatal jealousy, concessions were made to the language of the day and the overall design featured contemporary costumes and an abstract set reminiscent of the work of the Spanish cubist painters Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso.
