For Hatton Operatic Society’s October 2002 production of ‘Pirates' , I reorchestrated the music for a seven piece ensemble as follows:
1. Flute/piccolo
2. Clarinet 1
3. Clarinet 2/tenor sax
4. Trumpet
5. Bass
6. Percussion
7. Piano

Since the original overture is rather long, I arranged a new one which I felt was more appropriate for perfomance by the reduced forces. The new overture leads straight into the opening chorus.

Our production also included an extended Act 2 finale incorporating material which was deleted after the premieres in Paignton and New York. The extra material was (1) a quotation from HMS Pinafore, (2) a reprise of Hail Poetry and (3) a reprise of the Major General’s song (item (3) also appears in the Joseph Papp version of the show).

The band parts were prepared using CODA Finale software and have also been converted to Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files. CLICK HERE to see an example of one of the parts.

If any other amateur groups would like to make use of this material, I will be very happy to provide details. I am willing to hire the printed band parts to organisations in the UK at very reasonable rates. I have also prepared a CD containing all of the files (plus various other material used during our production, such as MIDI files which were used to make teaching tapes for the voice parts).
